Dadabhai Naoroji was born in Bombay on 17 June 1825. He was a Gujarati Indian politician, an educator, a journalist, an economist, and an activist. He was the first Asian and the first Indian to be elected to the British House of Commons.
1. Dadabhai Naoroji’s Early Life
Dadabhai Naoroji was born in 1825 in Gujarat, India. He was the first Indian to become a Member of Parliament in the British Parliament. He was a renowned economist and politician.
He was also a key figure in the Indian independence movement. He was the founding member of the Indian National Congress in 1885.

2. Naoroji’s Early Political Career
After leaving school, Naoroji began working as a clerk for the Bank of England in London. He later became a clerk for the House of Commons. In 1885 he was appointed as a member of the Indian Civil Service.
He served in the British government for the next twenty-two years. In 1892, Naoroji became the first Indian to be elected as a member of the British Parliament. He served as a member for the constituency of Finsbury for the next ten years.

3. Naoroji’s Early Educational Career
In 1877, Naoroji attended the Government Central College, Bombay with a scholarship from the government of Bombay.
The college was located in the heart of the city, and Naoroji was able to attend classes there. However, he was not allowed to take examinations and graduate from this college.
He continued his studies and graduated from Bombay University in 1881. He later attended the University of London in 1882 and earned his B.A. in 1884.
After graduation, he returned to India, became a professor at Bombay University, and began lecturing on political economy.
4. Naoroji’s Later Political Career.
Naoroji had a great future ahead of him. He was an educator and a statesman. His first job was as an instructor at the London School of Economics.
He later became the secretary of the Indian National Congress in 1893.
In 1906, he became the first Indian to be elected to the British Parliament. After the 1909 election, he became the president of the British Indian Association.
